Project Release Checklist:

  • Approve the project’s outcomes against the pre-planned success criteria and make sure the work results satisfy all requirements and therefore can be accepted to final release (with a help of the Project Acceptance Plan);
  • If some problems are detected yet, then take care of necessary actions to rectify them prior to project release:
    • If the problem(s) is considered as major or critical one(s), then immediately design a plan to resolve the issue(s):
      • Estimate time to be taken by realization of this plan and consider postponing the date of official release;
      • If the release date will be postponed, then take care of announcement to stakeholders, community and publicity as appropriate;
    • If the problem(s) is considered as minor and not critical, then take care of follow-up actions:
      • Establish a plan to resolve the issues on the stages of handover, implementation or other follow-up stages (in a case of software, problems can be resolved with a help of a patch);
      • Make sure project users are informed about these problems and plans on their resolution;
  • Once the quality and functionality of the project’s results are completely approved and accepted by the project key stakeholders, they need to go through final procedures:
    • Checking the Technical Configuration of project products to make sure there is a full set of items to be delivered (to customers or to the market), according to the project specifications;
    • Conducting the necessary range of pre-launch workability testing procedures:
      • Testing integral workability of the project’s product;
      • Testing the particular components of the project’s product;
      • Testing additional and supportive items, such as documentation;
    • Audit of documentation: project documents, user guides, handbooks, etc;
  • Prepare all release-related facilities and items:
    • Packaging to make the project’s results attractive;
    • IT utilities and physical base to implement the project’s results;
    • Web-site framework and content to represent the project’s results;
    • Marketing materials to introduce the project’s results to audience;
    • Artworks: logos, colors, mottos, etc to make the project’s results recognizable;
  • Inform the customer representatives (if it is a tailored project) about your readiness to release the project results:
    • Agree with them upon the Project Handover Plan (trainings, implementation, etc);
    • Agree with them upon the Project Maintenance Plan (follow-up support and collaboration);
  • If the project results are to be introduced to a wide audience, then finalize development of a set of all necessary policies at organizational level:
    • Marketing strategy to support entering the market with project results:
      • Their unique qualities;
      • Their benefits to buyers and users;
      • Their advantageous pricing;
      • Their advantages over the competitors;
    • PR strategy to make people aware of project release:
      • A way to approach publicity (a wide target audience);
      • A way to approach community (people expecting the project results);
      • A way to gain and secure popularity of the released project’s products;
