Program Management Checklist Program management is a strategic approach used to manage organizational changes, lessons learned, and methodologies that occur throughout the course of a project. The Program Management Checklist describes how to follow this approach.

  1. Project Summary.
    • Review goals of your project and make sure they meet initial expectations of key stakeholders.
    • Review project deliverables (products and services) and make sure they are correlated with the goals.
    • Review key project events and make sure they are scheduled.
    • Review the project charter and make sure this document is aligned with the project vision of key stakeholders.
  2. Project Staff Organization.
    • Review roles assigned to participants of the project. Make sure each of the roles is assigned to the right person.

    • Review Cost management plan to make sure that costs policies describe all procedures necessary for planning, coordinating and measuring project costs. Also these policies should identify tools for making cost-effective decisions on capturing ongoing costs and comparing them against the baseline costs.
    • Review Time management plan (Project Schedule) to find out whether sufficient details on resource requirements, material timing, and timelines are available for the project team. Also Time management plan should demonstrate a hierarchy of schedules covering all tasks and activities of the project.
    • Review Risk management plan and make sure it specifies standards for activities that reduce the impact of uncertainties surrounding the project. It should also define a contingency plan.
    • Review Resource management plan that should clearly state an amount of resources required for implementing the project. Make sure that the plan is regularly updated by the management team and new resource estimates are added to the plan once any changes in requirements are occurred.
    • Review Procurement management plan that should determine relationships with suppliers (procurers).
    • Review Quality management plan to make sure it documents activities for quality assurance & control.
  4. Project Assessment.
    • Review the baseline parameters (Cost, Schedule and Staffing) of your project and make sure the baseline provides effective techniques for managing the project and meeting performance objectives.
    • Conduct technical assessment to investigate cost, schedule and staffing goals of your project and find out if they fit into business opportunities.
    • Conduct performance assessment reviews to ensure that Cost, Schedule and Staffing goals of your project are aligned with existing strategies.
    • Review milestones of your project to track project commitments, plans, status, costs, and risks.
