Starting up a project:

  • Assigning the Project Board (representing Customer, User and Supplier):
    • Customer (or Executive): the person who provides funding for the project;
    • User: the person who will practically consume the results of the project;
    • Supplier (or Specialist): the person providing an expert input into the working process;
  • Assigning the Project Manager:
    • The Project Manager regularly reports on the progress to the Project Board;
    • The Project Manager escalates any predicted problems to the Project Board;
    • The Project Board supports the Project Manager with necessary decisions;
  • Assembling the Project Management Team;
  • Preparing a Project Brief (to explain purposes of the project and business justification);
  • Defining approaches and methods to be taken;

  • Considering if the project justification is sufficient enough to go on with the project;
  • Developing and confirming the Business Case as acceptable;

  • Creating PID (Project Initiation Document);

Directing a Project:

    • Measuring project progress according to the Project Plan;
    • Modifying the Project Plan as necessary;

    • Creating an End Stage Reports and submitting them to the Project Board;
    • Communicate Project Plan updates to the Project Board for review and authorization;
    • Producing an Exception Plan;
  • Authorising a Stage or Exception plan;
  • Giving Ad-Hoc Direction (monitoring progress and situation to provide advice and guidance);
  • Confirming Project Closure;

Controlling a Stage:

  • Authorising amount and scope of work to be done (a Work Package); 
  • Collecting and analyzing progress information about the work performed; 
  • Reviewing the situation, identifying and examining Project Issues and Changes; 
  • Undertaking any necessary corrective actions; 
  • Reviewing stage status and reporting highlights; 
  • Escalating project issues to the Project Board; 

Managing Product Delivery:

  • Accept a Work Package;
  • Execute a Work Package;
  • Deliver a Work Package;
