Peer Editing Checklist Peer editing is the process of reviewing a paper to make suggestions and corrections regarding its content and improve writing. Such a process is widely used in colleges and institutes by students and teachers.

1.    Prepare Your Work for Peer Editing.

  • Identify the general idea of your work
  • Read the paper carefully several times
  • Think whether it describes the idea
  • Take notes about major topics and paragraphs of the paper
  • Rewrite uncertain sentences and remove senseless ones
  • Check the text for correctness and appropriateness
  • Check and revise grammar errors
  • Be sure the paper is formatted and styled as required
  • Think who could be the best peer editor or partner for you
  • Make a copy of your work and submit it to your peer editor (partner)
  • Receive the peer editor’s work for review

2.    Prepare Yourself for Peer Editing.

  • Keep all supplies (pencils, pens, notebook, highlighter, clips) handy

  • Figure out what could be done to improve the content
  • List your improvement suggestions in a clear and unambiguous manner
  • Have your comments attached as an apex to the partner’s work
  • Identify what corrections could be made to improve the document
  • Send your suggestion list to the partner
  • Complete peer editing and request the partner for discussion

4.    Discuss the Works.

  • Receive your peer edited work with the partner’s suggestions
  • Hold a meeting with the partner to discuss each other’ suggestions
  • Suggest your corrections to the partner’s work
  • Receive the partner’s corrections
  • Discuss the corrections
  • Appreciate the partner for his/her effort
  • Apply proposed corrections to your paper
  • Revise the work
  • Create the final version of your paper and have it ready for printing

5.    General Tips.

  • Be constructive when starting peer editing the partner’s work
  • Consider the tone of your comments
  • Make specific but practical suggestions
