1. Preparations
- Make sure the workplace for new employee is ready and fully equipped
- Develop plans and goals for new employee within probationary period
- Assign at least one temporary mentor who will couch and train new employee
- Let department's community know beforehand about new employee
- Assign one hour at the morning to introduce new employee to department community
2. Introduction and welcome
- Provide new employee with a copy of this checklist
- Provide employee with all necessary equipment required, including personal computer, fax, telephone, printer and other facilities
- Provide new employee with corporate e-mail account
- Introduce new employee to supervisor, team leader and mentor
- Introduce new employee to colleagues and others with whom he will interact in regular job
- Provide new employee with contact information of department head, supervisor and other managing persons
3. Department and position overview
- Review department's organizational structure
- Describe the role of department in the company
- Overview objectives and priorities of department and how new employee's job contributes to both
- Explain performance standards and expectations
- Give a copy of the performance assessment form and reward system
- Provide updated job fact sheet for the position and a written job description
- Discuss probationary period and probationary conditions
- Refer new employee to the corporate on-line resource
